Chief Tom Barstow Announces His Retirement

North Myrtle Beach Fire Chief Tom Barstow has informed the city that he will retire February 20th, 2015.

Tom Barstow began as a Firefighter with the Department of Public Safety in 1980, after relocating from his hometown of Tonawanda, New York where he first started in the fire service. He was promoted to Shift Captain in 1982 and Training Captain in 1986. He was appointed as the city’s fourth Fire Chief in 1996.

In addition to his duties as Fire Chief, Tom also serves as the city’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. He was appointed President of the South Carolina Fire Chiefs Association for the 2014-2015 term. He is also a past president of the Horry Georgetown Fire Chief’s Association.

The City of North Myrtle Beach thanks Tom Barstow for his 34 years of dedicated and effective service. We wish him and his family well as they enjoy the fun and adventure that lie before them!
