Bomb and Arson K-9

K9 LoeLoe(pronounced LuLu) was born January 26th 2012 in the Netherlands and flown to the USA for training. She was trained by K9 Handler Jacob Weeks with the assistance of master trainers from Enforcement K-9 International, Inc. January and February 2014 in Wilmington, NC. K-9 LoeLoe has been trained and certified in Explosives Detection and Human Odor Tracking and re-certifies on an annual basis. K-9 LoeLoe and K-9 Handler Weeks also perform numerous hours of training each month to ensure they are proficient and reliable at all times. K-9 LoeLoe is currently trained and certified to detect over 15 explosive odors ranging from Homemade explosives all the way to Military Grade explosives.

K-9 LoeLoe has been serving the City Of North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety Proudly since being placed in service on February 28, 2014 beside her partner K-9 Handler Jacob Weeks. As an Explosives Detection K-9 Team, LoeLoe and Weeks have had the opportunity and honor of working to keep the citizens and visitors of North Myrtle Beach safe by performing preventative sweeps before and during major public events, assisting with public education, tracking suspects of crimes and missing persons, responding to bomb threats, and even working with the U.S. Secret Service personnel assisting in security sweeps for presidential candidates and Foreign Dignitaries.

Although sometimes not seen due to the majority of their work being completed “behind the scenes”, K-9 LoeLoe and K-9 Handler Weeks are diligently working to keep the citizens and visitors of our great city safe.

Technical Rescue Team

Our Technical Rescue Team consists of members who are specialized in areas such as trench rescue, confined space operations, hazardous materials response, rope rescue situations, and search and rescue operations. Specialized equipment is carried on our Heavy Rescue as well as the Team’s TRT trailer. Our team coordinates and trains with our mutual aid agencies as well as regional and state USAR teams. Team members participate in numerous drills throughout each year in order to be able to perform at the best possible level they can.

E.M.T. Bike Team

Our EMT Bike Team was created in 2007 as a way to improve abilities of personnel to address medical emergencies during the numerous festivals and special events held in our City each year. Team Members utilze Department Bicycles and UTV’s throughout the year on Main Street, the Sports Complex, and various other locations. Events such as the Diva Half Marathon, Monday after the Masters, St. Patricks Day Parade to name a few draw large crowds. Having the ability to move in and around crowds quickly is essential in the event of a medical emergency.
