Officers of the Beach Patrol train and supervise the city’s seasonal lifeguards. The Beach Patrol provides police services, responds to medical emergencies and conducts water rescue operations along the city’s nine miles of coast. Beach Patrol officers operate a variety of vehicles including 4 by 4 pickup trucks, four-wheelers and jet skis.
Crime Scene Technicians
These officers work within the Uniform Patrol Division. They are trained and equipped to gather a wide variety of evidence in criminal investigations including latent fingerprints and other trace evidence.
The Traffic Unit is responsible for promoting safe driving habits, deterring aggressive driving behavior, enforcing DUI laws and general traffic safety duties in the City of North Myrtle Beach. Traffic Officers also perform collision investigation and reconstruction and child car seat installation. Our Traffic Officers operate a fleet of Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycles, as well as a speed measurement trailer and traffic counters.
The Department of Public Safety operates three active K-9 Teams. In addition to routine patrol, these teams conduct search operations and assist other agencies with multi-jurisdictional investigations.
Alcohol Enforcement Team (AET)
The AET was created to address public health and safety issues created by underage drinking and substance abuse. They accomplish this by educating the public and working with local merchants to prevent underage purchase of alcoholic beverages.
Police Mountain Bike Team
The Department of Public Safety has numerous officers trained and equipped with mountain bikes. Bike officers perform routine patrol duties as well as event security. The team is also used in a crime suppression role. Officers are Class A certified through the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association (LEBA).
