NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- A flowering dogwood 25 feet tall is recognized as the Tree of the Month for May 2022, in the City of North Myrtle Beach.
This beautiful specimen is located in the 400 block of 2nd Avenue South, North Myrtle Beach. Babs and Tom Johnson say the tree has been in the backyard since around the early 1970s. Tom's parents built the house in 1975 and Babs and Tom have lived there since 2017 when they retired from Gastonia, North Carolina.
This dogwood tree (cornus florida) is the prominent piece of an eclectically landscaped backyard.
Babs says the tree looks prettier from everyone else's backyard because of the way the flowers shine over the top of the fence.

The Tree of the Month program began in 2010 to recognize trees within the city that have been preserved over the years. It also provides a platform to remind people of the benefits and importance that trees offer in our everyday lives.
