Captain Baldasarre was born in New Jersey, but grew up in the City of North Myrtle Beach.  He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1985, where he served as a member of the Marine Security Detachment at Camp David and later as a squad leader with Echo Company 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines.

In January of 1994, Captain Baldasarre began his career in Public Safety with the City of North Myrtle Beach. He has served in a variety of billets including uniform patrol, criminal investigations and professional standards. He also served as a member of the department’s Special Response Team and Honor Guard.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May of 2000 and to the rank of Lieutenant in April of 2007. In December of 2013, he was promoted to his current rank of Captain, were he serves as the Captain of Police Services.

Mike started with the city of North Myrtle Beach as a firefighter on January 25th 1999.  During that time he was assigned to several different stations.  In September 2001 he was promoted to Fire Lieutenant on A shift.  He also was an instructor and helped teach recruit schools and PSO’s.  In 2005 he became a class 1 officer and a Super PSO.  In 2006 he made the decision to switch to the patrol division and was assigned to Charlie Squad.  He eventually was moved to Delta Squad where he served as a field training officer.  In 2012 was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  He was assigned to Delta Squad and was the night shift supervisor until 2015.  At that time he transferred to Bravo Squad in order to work on day shift schedule.  Mike was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on January 10th 2016.  Mike is married and has two children.  In his spare time Mike enjoys watching hockey and occasionally getting out and playing golf.

Lt. Griffin supervises the Communication/ Detention Center as well as the B rotation patrol squads. Lt. Griffin is a sixteen-year veteran of the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety. She formerly worked in Uniform Patrol as a Field Training Officer, K9 Handler, and Patrol Sgt. She also worked in the Criminal Investigations Unit and Training Division before being promoted to Lt. in 2014. Lt. Griffin earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia University, in Columbia S.C. She is a graduate of the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute’s 134th Administrative Officers Course and holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Horry Georgetown Technical College. Lt. Griffin is an active member of the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives, the Southern Police Institute’s Alumni Association, the North Myrtle Beach Optimist Club, the North Myrtle Beach Women’s Club, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association.

Currently, Lieutenant Downey oversees Support Services which includes Police Training, Communications /Detention, Records Division, and our Department Recruitment and Hiring.

Lieutenant Sean Downey is a North Myrtle Beach High School graduate. He began his Public Safety career in 1997 after serving in U.S. Marine Corps for 4 years. In the Marine Corp, he completed tours in the Persian Gulf and Japan with 3rd Battalion 5th Marines Weapons Company. Since joining North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety, he has graduated from the SC Criminal Justice Academy, earned his Fire Fighter 1 certification, earned LEBA police bike patrol officer certification and served as a Field Training Officer training over 10 years helping train new police recruits for our Department. Additionally, he served on the Department Special Response Team for 7 years and is one of the founding members of the departments Honor Guard. In 2003, he earned a promotion to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in 2003 and served as a patrol squad supervisor supervising twelve (12) patrol officers. In 2012, he was appointed to his current position of Police Lieutenant in 2012. Lt. Downey studied Criminal Justice at Horry Georgetown Technical College prior to completing his Bachelor’s Degree Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia College. Lt. Downey is a long time resident of the North Myrtle Beach area. Lt. Downey is married with three kids who are active in school and sports. Lt. Downey enjoys spending his free time boating and on the beach with family.

Lt. Thomas Dennis supervises Beach Patrol, Community Services, and Records Division.

Lt. Dennis began his law enforcement career here in North Myrtle Beach in February of 1997 after graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina in 1996. He began as a uniform patrol officer and bike patrol officer before being promoted to Criminal Investigations in 2001. He was promoted to and served as a Patrol Sergeant from July of 2012 until being promoted to Police Lieutenant in August of 2015. He served in the Department’s Honor Guard from 2012 until 2016. He is completely devoted to his family, and when he is not working, spends as much time as possible with his wife and two children whether it’s riding bicycles, on the boat fishing, or in church.
