[ARCHIVED] Register Now for the Junior Lifeguard Program (Ages 9-15)

Junior Lifeguards - 960 x 720

REGISTER NOW OPEN FOR THE JUNIOR LIFEGUARD SUMMER PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE AGES 9-15

Registration is now open for the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Department's 2021 Junior Lifeguard Summer Program for people ages 9-15. Sign up at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center, 1030 Possum Trot Road, North Myrtle Beach. Registration for each camp is $45 and includes a rashguard, backpack, and swim beanie.

Junior Lifeguard participants learn basic rescue skills while engaging in fun and challenging activities. Participants also receive American Red Cross First Aid and CPR training without certification.

There are two identical camps to choose from or participants can attend both camps:

Camp 1 is June 22-July 15. Participants meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 am-10:30 am.

Camp 2 is July 20-August 12. Participants meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 am-10:30 am.

Most program activities are held on the beach at the end of Main Street. One day is set aside for each camp at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center for First Aid and CPR training.

All participants must be strong swimmers. Participants who have not completed the Junior Lifeguard Program before, and are not a member of a swim team, must complete a 50-yard, untimed swim test at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center prior to beginning the Junior Lifeguard program. The swim test for Camp 1 is June 12 at 2:00 pm, and the swim test for Camp 2 is July 10 at 2:00 pm.

Participants are divided into two groups—Wahoos include ages 9-12, and Makos include ages 13-15.

Participants should arrive no later than 8:30 am when classes are scheduled and are encouraged to bring a bottle of water or sports drink, sunscreen, a towel and, if desired, goggles.

The Junior Lifeguard program is a good path to follow for those who one day would like to work as one of the City's seasonal Ocean Lifeguards.

Upon completion of one of the camps, Junior Lifeguards may shadow a North Myrtle Beach Ocean Lifeguard on Saturdays from 9:00 am-11:30 am.

At the end of the camps, graduating Junior Lifeguards may participate in the August 14 Fourth Annual Junior Lifeguard Day on the beach at the end of Main Street. Families can watch their Junior Lifeguards compete in fun games enjoyed by lifeguards worldwide, including a run-swim-run relay and a Beach Flags tournament.
