[ARCHIVED] Results - Special Called June 7 City Council Meeting

NMB City Council - April 5 2021 - FINAL - Reduced

RESULTS -- SPECIAL CALLED JUNE 7 CITY COUNCIL MEETING

On June 7 at City Hall, the North Myrtle Beach City Council held a special called meeting and executive session.

City Council met in a 6:30 pm executive session and received a legal briefing regarding a proposed amendment to the Barefoot Resort Development Agreement related to the Sea Glass Cottages project. Council took no action.

During the 7:00 pm meeting, Mayor Marilyn Hatley presented a Proclamation and a ceremonial key to the City to reigning Miss U.S. International Maritsa Platis, a North Myrtle Beach resident who will also be a contestant in the 2021 Miss International Pageant. (See a separate article on this at www.NMB.us News.)

City Council adopted a motion to approve a special event permit for the 11:00 am-1:30 pm Fourth of July American Pride March sponsored by American Legion Post 186. Two flag teams will walk the beach, culminating at the Horseshoe on Main Street with a flag-raising ceremony, singing of the National Anthem, and more. One team will march south from 60th Avenue North and the other team will march north from Ocean Creek Resort.

City Council held a public hearing on the proposed fiscal year (FY) 2022 budget. The proposed $131 million budget contains more than $30 million worth of projects delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They include the construction of the 18th Avenue North ocean outfall, the City’s sixth ocean outfall; the expansion of the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports complex; and the construction of a combined Emergency Operations Center/Data Center/Fire Station west of the Intracoastal Waterway on City-owned land. All are multi-year projects.

City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance setting the proposed tax levy at 45 mils for FY 2022, which runs July 1-June 30. No property tax increase is recommended. North Myrtle Beach has the lowest property tax rate for a full-service municipality in Horry County, and it is one of the lowest in South Carolina.

City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance to provide for the adoption of the City’s FY 2022 budget.
