SMOKE OR THE SMELL OF SMOKE IN NORTH MYRTLE BEACH
If you see or smell smoke in parts of North Myrtle Beach later this evening, this is why:
According to NMB Fire Chief Garry Spain, Horry County Fire/Rescue has been on the scene today with a woods fire at the end of Bayberry Lane off Highway 90. This wooded tract backs up to the land-clearing project underway for Barefoot Church off Robert Edge Parkway.
SC Forestry has been on the scene as well and is working to plow a firebreak around the woods fire. The fire is also burning about 5-6 inches under peat moss. As the winds shift later this evening, we can expect some smoke or the smell of smoke to filter into parts of North Myrtle Beach.
NO HOMES HAVE BEEN THREATENED, AND NO EVACUATIONS HAVE BEEN ORDERED. Units will remain at the scene.
A second fire occurred off Dewitt Road near Bombing Range Road. It involved a pile of trees. There is no danger of this fire spreading. SC Forestry plowed a line around the fire, and Horry County Fire crews were mopping up on the scene. As of this writing, this fire should not generate smoke or the smell of smoke for the Barefoot area.
