NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments in partnership with Coastal Carolina University, Horry County, Horry Soil and Water Conservation District, and North Myrtle Beach are implementing an SCDHEC 319 non-point source demonstration grant to help mitigate fecal coliform water quality impairments in the Hog Inlet watershed.
Public involvement is a key aspect of this grant project. A workday to build an oyster reef restoration site in Hog Inlet has been scheduled for Thursday April 28, 2022. Our project team needs assistance. We will be meeting at the Future Farmers of America Center at 11:30am- 1069 FFA Circle Rd North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582 to build the new oyster reef. We anticipate the work to be finished by 2pm.
We also need help on Wednesday April 27, 2022 to bag recycled oyster shells and complete other prep work for the reef building event the following day. We will be meeting at Coastal Carolina University at 2:30pm behind the Burroughs and Chapin Center- 290 Allied Dr. Conway, SC 29526. We anticipate completing the prep work by 6pm.
We are seeking volunteers to help at either location or both if so desired! Refreshments, gloves, and equipment will be provided. We recommend participants to bring sunblock and wear a hat and sturdy footwear. Please see the PDF links below for additional details regarding this volunteer opportunity. To RSVP or If you have any questions, please contact Whitney Warner, Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments wwarner@wrcog.org 843-436-6251.
This is a great hands-on and educational volunteer experience. We hope that you will consider joining us on April 27 or 28th! THANKS!
