[ARCHIVED] Mayor Hatley Proclaims August 7-13 National Health Center Week

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The mayor of North Myrtle Beach, Marilyn Hatley, proclaimed August 7-13, 2022, Community Health Center Week.

Mayor Hatley’s proclamation offers information about the role community health centers, and the Little River Medical Center, have in the City of North Myrtle Beach and the United States. 

WHEREAS, there are a significant number of citizens in North Myrtle Beach who are currently medically underserved for a number of reasons, the most prominent of which includes geographical isolation, financial barriers, and an insufficient number of healthcare providers; and

WHEREAS, Little River Medical Center, Inc. is a program of a private, nonprofit corporation that provides high quality, comprehensive primary healthcare to medically underserved people in North Myrtle Beach; and
 
WHEREAS, Little River Medical Center, Inc. has made great strides in the North Myrtle Beach healthcare system specifically by maintaining a high standard of accountability, demonstrating cost effectiveness, empowering our community to develop programs to its specific needs, enhancing opportunities for children and families, and providing healthcare services in accessible low-cost environments; and
 
WHEREAS, Little River Medical Center, Inc. has also made a significant difference in the North Myrtle Beach healthcare system by improving access to quality healthcare provided by trained professionals in areas that had previously been unserved or underserved, promoting individual responsibility and health awareness in the community, and offering primary preventive healthcare of the highest quality to reduce preventable deaths, costly disabilities, and communicable diseases; and
 
WHEREAS, community health centers such as Little River Medical Center, Inc. promote 100% access and zero health disparities to help achieve primary healthcare for all people.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Marilyn Hatley, Mayor of the City of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, along with the North Myrtle Beach City Council do hereby proclaim August 7-13, 2022 as Community Health Center Week in the City of North Myrtle Beach and urge our citizens to recognize the important contributions community health centers and Little River Medical Center, Inc. have made to improve the general quality of life of the citizens of North Myrtle Beach.
 

Mayor Hatley urges citizens and visitors to join in the special observance of Community Health Center Week.
