City of North Myrtle Beach Earns Top Recognition for Financial Reporting
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the City of North Myrtle Beach its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The City earned the recognition for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019.
According to North Myrtle Beach Finance Director Randy Wright, this is the 34th consecutive year the City has earned the GFOA award. The City’s first GFOA award came in 1986.
The Certificate of Achievement represents the GFOA’s top honor in the area of government accounting and financial reporting.
A November 11, 2020 letter to City Manager Mike Mahaney announcing the award states that the judging panel noted that the City’s CAFR “met the high standards for the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.”
The Government Finance Officers Association, founded in 1906, represents public finance officials and has more than 20,000 members throughout the United States and Canada.
